Senate vows to resist moves to reinstate suspended SGF Babachir Lawal

The Nigerian Senate has vowed to resist all pressure to reinstate the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal

The Senate said it is aware of pressure from various groups to protect the suspended SGF’s job

Senators said they were shocked of an additional N200 million used to hire consultants for grass-cutting by Lawal

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, May 3, said it will resist all effort within and outside the government to reinstate the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal.

Considering the final report of the Senate ad-hoc committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East which indicted Lawal, the Senate said, it will use very strong legislative intervention to engage the Presidency on the matter.

The Senate also said it has resolved to send its resolution to President Muhammadu Buhari for immediate action while adopted its report.

Having adopted the report, the Senate President Bukola Saraki said there is pressure from various group to protect the job of the suspended SGF.

Saraki said: “I am sure of the kind of pressure on the members; especially the chairman and some of us in the leadership and the kind of pressure we were under.

But for you to have been able to stay firm and do your job, and carry out your responsibility, I must commend the committee and the chairman, in particular.”

Also, during the presentation of the report, the senators were said the were shocked to discover that an extra N200 million was spent to hire consultants on grass-cutting aside the previous N270 million known to the public.

We recall that the ad-hoc committee was led by Senator representing Kaduna Central Shehu Sani of the All Progressives Congress party.
