When we reported the release of 82 more Chibok girls after a little over three years in Boko Haram custody, it led to a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians.

While many were happy and praised the Buhari government, others expressed doubt about the release and spouted conspiracy theories.

In a tweet by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, he confirmed that the girls have arrived Abuja and were received by Abba Kyari who is the president’s chief of staff.

Vanguard also reported that according to an anonymous source, one of the Chibok girls was carrying a baby.

Military and civilian militia sources in the town of Baki, close to Cameroon, said the girls left for Borno state capital Maiduguri on board six military helicopters at 6:10 am.

The presidency said the teenagers would be brought to Abuja to meet Buhari, who was swept to power on a promise to defeat Boko Haram, whose insurgency has killed at least 20,000 people in Nigeria since 2009.

Also, it has been reported that Shehu Sani, a Nigerian senator who has been involved in previous negotiations, said the talks lasted for “three to four months”.

Meanwhile, an earlier report  shows that a combined team of military and Red Cross negotiators involved in the negotiation flew two Boko Haram commanders to Banki town in Borno State in exchange for the girls while the Nigerian army took custody of the girls who were handed over by Boko Haram representatives.
